Umpires Needed- Start your Umpiring Career
by posted 11/17/2018

Dear Parents,

My name is Alex Skandalis and I am a co-owner of the New Jersey Sports Assigning Bureau.  You know our Company as the group who provides umpires for your local baseball and/or softball league.  I write to you today with a unique opportunity for you to continue your love of baseball and/or softball through officiating.  Soon, your child(ren) will graduate out of youth baseball/softball, what a great way to stay involved, enjoy a game you have followed for years and continue your involvement in your local/surrounding league.  No experience is necessary initially, but you will have to sign up and attend a several week introductory class (one night per week), taught at a local high school in your county of choice beginning in January.  Training, uniforms and equipment will cost about $350, but game fees typically range from $50-$60 a game, meaning you will make back your initial investment in no time.  Umpires of all ages (must be 18+) have used this “hobby” to supplement their income, continue their love for the game and gain valuable exercise during the Spring and Summer months.

If this sounds like a journey that interests you, please reach out to me at askandalis1@gmail.com.  The number of youth sports officials has decreased annually for the last five years.  We would love to get you signed up and on the umpiring journey.

Sincerely,

Alex Skandalis

Please feel free to forward this registration to any friends or family with daughters in the Flemington, Readington, Tewksbury or any other town in Hunterdon county with a family looking for a competitive softball program for their daughter.

Our League

North Hunterdon Youth Baseball and Softball is a non-profit corporation 501c3 whose revenues are derived solely from its membership fees and fundraising efforts. We are not affiliated with any municipality or recreation department and receive no public or municipal funding. All costs associated with operating our league, including field rental, equipment, uniforms and umpire fees, are paid through our registration fees and fundraising efforts. Our games are played at Bundt Park in Clinton, North Hunterdon High School and occasionally on Jericho field 2.

2019 Volunteer Statement and Opt Out Fee-

We are a 100% volunteer run league.  From our board of directors to our managers and coaches.  In the spirit of volunteerism, we require that all families volunteer 3 hours of their time, per child per season, to help insure the basic operations of are league do not fall only on our board members and managers.

Volunteer time includes manning the snack shack, prepping and recovering the fields before and after games.  Assuming a manager’s position or one of two assigned coaching positons, being a team administrator or helping with various fund raisers and field clean up days.   In 2019, a family can purchase a volunteer waiver for $50 a family to be excused from volunteer service. (If you have more than 1 child only pay the opt out on one registration)

Save the Date:

Major’s Tryouts and Minor’s evaluations take place on Sunday 2-10-19 at North Hunterdon Highschool from 10am-130pm.

Spring 2019 Softball

Unless there are rainouts that need to be made up, there will be no games on Sunday. Each team will also practice prior to the season and throughout the year at the discretion of the team manager.

If you are interested in being a manager or coach, you will find a separate registration on the NHYBS registration site – there is no cost to register as a manager or coach. Registration will require a background check and one-time attendance at a safety course sponsored by Rutgers University at a cost of $40 – see the registration site for more details.
